Brian Maurer: “A poem is but a prayer”

Below is a newly composed poem by a New England physician whose world lines crossed with us many years ago.

As the text speaks for itself, we will not offer much of an introduction.

Enjoy.

And thank you, Dr. Maurer!

A poem is but a prayer

A poem is but a prayer,

Newly formed in the heart,

Born afresh from sorrow or lament.

A prayer is but a poem

Freshly born in the soul,

A praise lifted up with grateful intent.

Poems and prayers come

From the same deep place;

And praise and lament are but

Reflections of God’s grace.
